Description
Algonquin Park, one of the better know provincial parks in Canada’s province of Ontario, is classed as a “wilderness” park. One main road runs through the most section of it, Most large lakes that access this road will allow a motorboat, but then additional travel requires a canoe.
In the 70s, Allison and I spent a number of weeks “canoe tripping” in the Park, often going several “portages” back, to eliminate motorboats from our travel experience. We used a Chestnut fiberglass canoe, virtually indestructible, the “Tripper” model adapted for laying fully loaded canoe packs across the thwarts.
This was very early in my photographic efforts, but Allison would often get out her paints, and work from the bow of the canoe. This image was one of the best, and certainly one of the fastest I ever saw her produce.
