Description
11million years ago before the Ice age floods the Salmon-Clear water river flowed here. The basalt filled the canyon changing the river flows and was diverted southward where the Salmon-clear water flows to day into the Snake River. Looking at the rock you can see three different lava flows, Wanapum basalt, Saddle mountain basalt, and Pomona basalt. The Ice age floods came and flowing the fault the water carved out this canyon. Uncovering this basalt. This canyon is on SR 263 outside the town of Kahlotus, Washington.
